Green homes use less energy, water and natural resources, create less waste and are healthier for the people living inside compared to a standard home. Month to month, people who live in green homes save money by consuming 40% less energy and 50% less water than standard homes. Over the years, that adds up to big savings.

JamesHardie Products

Hardie Plank siding can be found on millions of homes in the U.S. today. It comes in a variety of looks and textures. This product is fiber-cement based and can withstand many types of weather. One of the key elements of building green is durability. Click here to visit the official website.

Electrical Efficiency
There are many ways to improve home efficiency through your electrical options. One way to prolong the life of a light bulb and save electricity is to install a dimmer switch. Florescent light fixtures, commonly used in closets, are at a lower watt bulb – ensuring a longer lasting bulb and less energy used. The recessed can light fixtures we use are air tight and eliminate air infiltration from the exterior. Outlet boxes on exterior walls are also air tight, caulked and sealed. Air infiltration in any area of the home can cause heating and cooling costs to rise. These are standards used on each of our projects.

Plumbing Efficiency
Two options in regards to plumbing efficiency within your home are high efficiency water heaters and tankless water heaters. Noritz is dedicated to providing long lasting, tankless water heaters. Toilets in the 1950’s used 7 gallons of water or more per flush. In 1995 the National Energy Policy Act went into effect and mandated toilets use no more than 1.6 gallons of water per flush.

Kohler is a great source for water-conserving plumbing fixtures. Their products allow for a comfortable water flow while minimizing the water used in toilets, showers and faucets.  Toilets use 20 to 30 percent less water than conventional toilets and efficient fixtures will reduce water consumption by 40 to 80 percent.

Cabinetry
The Forest Stewardship Council sets high standards that ensure forestry is practiced in an environmentally responsible, socially beneficial, and economically viable way. FSC Certified wood can be requested in regards to your cabinetry - but keep your budget in mind when you do this. Taking this route is not a way to cut costs.
